The easiest, and often safest, way to dispose of expired or unwanted mediation is through drug take-back or mail-back programs through pharmacies, government agencies and community groups, which will dispose of medications properly.

After you use up your medicine, you can toss the plastic containers, paper boxes and glass to bins as usual. Just make sure they are clean and labels are removed. The only exception are blister packaging of medicine that are made of plastic but they are coated with thin layer of aluminium which in most of the cases is problematic to remove. This package therefore belongs to household trash.
